arduino lcd connection

do u want to lit lcd with arduino  falloe these steps
1)keep away arduino...yes keep away from breadboard....in safe place .
2)how many pins on ur lcd display?16...14.......?last 2 pins for backlight of lcd if its 16 pin   ---dont connect
3)lcd has max 5 volt to operate on..u can obtain that from usb conn.of pc.(u will not short that power supply) by mistek if u then pc will restart... or ...but take care
4)pin 1 is -ve of 5 volt pin 2 is opsitive of 5 volt.
5)pin 3 .....if there is no contrast setting adjested then then u will not see any text on lcd though it is present there
u should connect +0.3 volt to +0.5volt  to this pin and uou will see some black spot of square size on lcd
6)u hv to adjest potential divider say 10k +1kpot ..10 k side to +ve and pot side to negative
and centre tap to pin 3
7 )read/write option pin   to negative of 5 volt ground because u have to write data in to lcd...now
8)Rs and E   connectors to arduino connector"e" is enable--to arduino
9)remained 8 lines...leave first 4....connect last 4 again seqience is imp.if that is wrong reverse them sequencially ....(reason will find in databook)
10)check 0.5 volt veries with pot...voltage at pin 1,2,3, is available
11)ok now connect lcd, check contrast adjestment  with pot,if ur measuring voltages on lcd terminals dont short them with probe.
12 compile and run "hallow world " it should work but if it isnt then ......u hve problem with 2+4 wires only..2..are rs and E..and other 4 are data wires....if that wont work change lcd..some time power supply gets loaded....which mean before connecting lcd it works ok and after connecting lcd it gets loded ...we think that lcd is not working.even pot voltage u hv to adjest ...check enable is working
